HISTORY

EISSOC

The Entrepreneurs in Science Society (EISSOC) was founded in the latter part of 2005, with the aim to develop a university community for students of Diploma in Innovation Management. Anyone who has undertaken or is undertaking a Diploma in Innovation Management course is a member of the society. The Diploma commenced in 2001 and aims to encourage an entrepreneurial mindset and provide students with the knowledge and skills needed for understanding and developing businesses based on scientific innovation. The society works to provide networking opportunities among peers, alumni and potential employers through events such as careers nights, annual ball, barbeques and fundraising events held over the period of a year.

BABSOC

The Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences Society (BABSOC) was founded in 1996 as the Biotechnology and Bioprocessing Engineering Society, a society for the members of the Department of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Science (BABS). This includes anyone who has undertaken or is currently studying a BABS course. As a result of changes to the school’s name in recent years the Department of Biotechnolgy (including the Department of Bioprocess Engineering) and schools of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology merged to become the School of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Science. As such BABSOC is now the society for all students of the aggregate school.Over the years the two societies have been working in co-ordination to implement a positive community based relationship between the members of the society. This has been proved to be successful through the ventures undertaken to enforce a social setting, networking and awareness about the aims of the societies.
