President's Welcome

Welcome everyone to the BABSOC-EISSOC online portal, take some time and look around our site to learn of upcoming events, browse pictures of our previous events, contact us, or learn more about our sponsors and opportunities they have on offer.

Firstly, well done! As anyone who has studied a BABS course knows, it is certainly one of the most challenging, yet rewarding academic tertiary experiences that can be had. To further that experience and help you capitalise on it, BABSOC and EISSOC have a number of new events planned for 2008, as well as some old favourites.

New to this year’s agenda is the ‘Iron Chef Babs-a-que’ where academics are assessed by students. Undergraduates/post graduates get to vote on food prepared by their lecturers and supervisors and gives an informal networking environment (plus there’s food!).

Also this year it’s BABS versus BEES in a massive blood-letting… or at least a Red Cross Blood Drive. It will be an opportunity for us to prove once and for all that our school / end of the Bioscience building is in everyway superior.

Also new this year is the ‘Meet the Entrepreneur’ series of talks. We are working with the Commsoc and ICE club from the Australian Graduate School of Management to host a series of talks by real entrepreneurs in a diverse range of fields – including science. For anyone who has ever wondered how to go from a lowly student to a successful and wealthy researcher and business person (it’s easy) this series is for you.

Of course there will also be the annual ball, and two careers nights tailored to those interested in careers in academia or in commercial science-related fields.

Remember, this is your society and it is here to make your uni life as enriching as possible, and to connect you with the people you will need when you leave.

Be a proud UNSW BABS student – because we are the most intelligent and capable kind of student there is.

Have a great year!
