It takes someone SPECIAL to give blood Many people do not give blood because they are afraid of needles or think it will be painful. Others have heard of a few people who have become faint or dizzy after donating blood. Some don’t want to take the time and effort required to give blood.
"Since I can’t afford to donate much money,
Save lives as a team! Do you bat for BABS or BEES? This challenge aims to encourage competition among BABS and BEES for the most blood donations. Winners of the blood drive challenge are calculated in two categories, the highest total donations and highest percentage of members donating blood. This challenge is affiliated through the Red Cross Blood Bank’ Club Red’ donor program. Donations can be given at static Blood Bank centers (Clarence St and Elizabeth St) or at mobile units, like the one that comes to UNSW. Blood is not only needed during times of emergency, but for many people in the community, including cancer patients, burns victims, expectant mums, premature babies, and people with blood disorders who need blood on a daily basis for their survival and quality of life.
